With stops in the Eastern Carpathians, the program includes the Baia Mare Neogene epithermal district, located in the central - eastern part of the Carpathian belt, one of Europe's major metallogenic provinces, the Crystalline-Mesozoic Zone, built up of basement shearing nappes (the Bucovinian Nappe, the Subbucovinian Nappe and the Infrabucovinian nappes), each of them showing large developed metamorphic formations covered by a Mesozoic or Permo-Mesozoic sedimentary envelope, the Călimani mountains which represent the largest and most complex volcanic structure at the northern part of the Călimani-Gurghiu-Harghita volcanic chain and the Ditrău Alkaline Massif, a large alkaline igneous complex generated in an extensional environment associated with a rifted continental margin, composed by a wide range of cogenetic alkaline rocks, ranging from ultramafic rocks (including kaersutite peridotite), through alkali gabbroic and intermediate compositions to syenites, alkali granites and nepheline syenites. Some important outcrops will be: Laleaua Albă quarry - Neogene igneous complex, Dealul Minei open pit - Baia Sprie base metal and silver-gold epithermal ore deposit, Mănăila quarry (metamorphosed base metal deposit), former Negoiul Românesc "Sulphur" quarry, Ulm quarry (metamorphosed Mn deposit), former Borsec travertine quarry, former Jolotca quarry (diorites, red syenites), former Ditrău quarry (alkaline syenites with potassic feldspar, nepheline, albite, aegirine, biotite, amphibole, titanite, cancrinite, sodalite, and analcime), Voşlobeni quarry (metamorphosed dolomites with large tremolite crystals). Two of the most representative mineralogical museums in Europe - Baia Mare Mineralogical Museum and the Mineralogical Museum of the "Babeş-Bolyai" University, Cluj-Napoca and four monuments from the UNESCO world heritage list are also included in the excursion: Surdeşti Wooden Church - 18th century, Moldoviţa Monastery - 16th century, Voroneţ Monastery - 15th century and Humorului Monastery - 16th century.
